Activities
Attraction parcs
There are several
attraction and theme parcs in the region, among which:
www.touroparc.com,
www.acrogivry.com,
www.divertiparc.com,
www.parcdescombes.com.
The stalactitic caves
of Azé or Blanot are worth visiting.
In high season, several
castles arrange special activities for children, like for
instance dressing up like a real princess or a musketeer in
the Abbaye de la Ferté.
Swimming
The lake of Laives is a
great place for swimming. It even has a sandy beach and a
beach bar.
Public swimming pools are
close by in Montceau-les-Mines, Mâcon, Cluny and Tournus.
Hiking
The many hiking routes lead
you through the beautiful countryside and by many historical
sights of interest. The Jouvencelle path, for instance, passes
in front of the house. Through the whole year hiking tours are
organised everywhere in the region.
Biking
The Voie Verte (Green
Trails) is a track that goes through a major part of Burgundy.
No cars are allowed, just bikers, skeelers, hikers and
horseback riders. Total length is 117 km and 21 different
tracks are marked, through the hills, pastures, villages and
vineyards.
One of the starting points
is situated in Saint Gengoux, where you can also rent a bike.
Horse-back riding
At several places in the
area, horses can be rented or lessons can be taken, also for
children.
Wine
tasting
In the area of the house
the vineyards can be spotted. Every season they have a
different colour and the winegrowers do their hard work. The
famous vineyards of Rully, Givry, Montagny, Mâcon, Chardonnay
are just a short drive away. It can be pleasant to visit one
of the many cellars or wine houses in the area.
The Route des grands
vins de Bourgogne leads you through the most beautiful
vineyards and by several wine houses. Twelve different tracks
are marked, passing many sights of interest, through 68
villages and about 100 wine houses.
Gastronomy
The French are used to
having lunch in a restaurant. Therefore most restaurants are
open for both lunch and dinner. Burgundy is world famous for
its gastronomy. Many nice places to eat can be found in the
area, mostly with very good menus. But also really exquisite
restaurants are of course in the region. Michelin-star awarded
restaurants can be found on
www.bourgogne.net/bourgmag/secret.html.
Markets
All year round, one or more
antique and bric-a-brac markets can be visited almost every
weekend.
Furthermore, at many weekly
markets you can find numerous cheeses and sausages from the
region and seasonal vegetables and fruit. The large farmers
market in Louhans on Monday mornings and the cosy market in
Cluny on Saturday are really worth visiting.
